We started General Wood Flooring LLC in 2022 after years of watching Austin homeowners get burned by crews that quoted low, vanished mid-job, or left cupped planks behind. The first job was a 780-square-foot solid hardwood refinish off Brodie Lane in 78745. We ran our own drum sander, hauled our own dust containment system, and finished with Bona waterborne polyurethane. That customer referred us to three neighbors. Word spread through Travis County the same way it always has here, one porch conversation at a time.

You get a real number, not a range designed to grow. We measure the room, check the subfloor with a moisture meter, and tell you what the job needs. If your floor just needs a screen-and-coat instead of a full sand, we say so. If the subfloor is uneven and needs leveling first, you hear that too, before we start, not after.

Sanding a floor used to mean a fine layer of dust on every surface in the house. Not with us. Our drum sander and edge sander run on a sealed dust containment system, and we tape off doorways and vents before we start. Most Austin customers tell us they are surprised how little cleanup is left for them.

Our lead installers hold NWFA Certified Installer credentials, and our sand-and-finish crew is NWFA Certified Sand & Finisher trained. We are also EPA Lead-Safe Certified for pre-1978 homes, which matters in older Austin neighborhoods. Every job runs under OSHA Safety Compliance and our Texas state contractor license, and we carry full insurance on every crew.

Floor cupping, crowning, squeaky floors, gaps at seams, and pet stains all have a source. We find it before we touch the surface. If a leak under the sink caused water damage, we tell you to fix that first. If humidity warped the planks, we spec the right underlayment and acclimation time. Repairing the cause is why our floors stay flat.
Our team is small on purpose. Two full-time sand-and-finish crews, one dedicated repair tech, and an estimator who has walked more Austin floors than he can count. Most of our installers came up through the trades here in Texas, and several have been laying hardwood since before we opened in 2022. We bring the right tool to every job: a flooring stapler and nail gun for solid hardwood planks, a floor roller for adhesive vinyl plank (LVP), an oscillating multi-tool and pry bar for tricky transitions, and a buffer for the final coat. We work with Bruce, Shaw, Mohawk, Armstrong, Pergo, Mannington, and Lumber Liquidators materials, and we finish with Bona, Minwax, and Duraseal products because they hold up in Austin heat.
